Fire destroys house in Fowlkes
County fire crews responded to a house fire early Tuesday morning, which totally destroyed a home in Fowlkes.
The call came into dispatch around 2:45 a.m. that the residence located at 51 West Main St. was burning. The Fowlkes, Bonicord and Bruceville fire departments responded to the fire and arrived to find the house fully engulfed in flames.
A deputy sheriff was already at the scene assisting the man that lived in the home. He was treated for some health issues and had some smoke inhalation. An ambulance was called for him, but he refused treatment. Dyer County Fire Chief James Medling said the man was the only person in the house at the time of the fire.
The fire crews had the fire under control within 30 minutes and they stayed on the scene until approximately 5:30. The Sprit and Life Christian Church, which sits next to the house, sustained some damage when the fire’s heat melted the vinyl siding ( A plastic exterior cladding for a house, used for decoration and weatherproofing, as an alternative to traditional wood siding or other materials such as aluminum or fiber cement siding. Medling said the house was a total loss and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. He added that it didn’t look like any foul play was involved in the cause and needed time to look it over.
